Worms Head

The Rhossili islet of Worm's Head (known locally as "The Worm") winds more than two kilometres out into the Atlantic Ocean and is the Gower Peninsula's most westerly tract of land.
The name "Worms Head" dates back to the time when the original Viking marauders first crossed the Atlantic towards the shore of Rhossili.

As they headed on into the bay, it would have been a great spectacle for these warriors to see this startling, twisted land mass loom towards them like some majestic leviathon.

So it was that the Viking's title for this islet was sealed as "The Wurme" - meaning Dragon/Serpent.

Worms Head rears out of the sea with its impressive Blow Hole sending spray up to 200 feet into the air.

You can explore the island at low tide via the causeway to the Worm and there are rock pools containing beautiful jewels, crabs and shrimps if you care to look.

With its many moods Rhossili benefits from ever changing light making it a beautiful, dramatic and constantly different visual setting.
