The Loughor River
The river Loughor rises in the Black Mountains and is joined by the river Amman prior to becoming one of five rivers that run into Carmarthen Bay.
This river has always been a boundary between counties and was regarded as far back as the Romans as a strategically important point.
As the river broadens into an estuary it becomes to the locals the "Burry" - hence Burry Port.
The tidal mudflats are home to thousands of waders who feed on the rich variety of shell fish and other food found here.
